OP09 Purple/Black (Luffy) Deck Profile

I'm afraid where we are at a point, we are getting too many Luffy Leader and not enough other. Well, I guess it is because Luffy is the face of One Piece like with any other Characters from other series. So it is not surprising if they focused on Luffy more than the other Characters in the series. Anyway, this time we've got Nika Luffy as the Leader which is something different than the normal Luffy we've seen so far in the game, and the effect is pretty good. You can actually run mono purple in this build if you wanted as the black side of the card pool doesn't really fit this deck style.

OP09 Luffy

How it Works?

As you can see in this build, I've tried to cramp as much cards as possible in one deck. Of course, there are other cards I want to run for this build, mainly the purple Straw Hat stuff from Purple Luffy deck, but then, you might as well just play Purple Luffy build. This deck has a bit of everything from both colours, ramp, removals and cost reducing. I didn't run cost reducers at first, but some of the cards in the deck are cost specific, so running cost reducers help dramatically in taking down big cost Characters.

As you also see, I'm running Kaido over secret rare Luffy in OP09, Kaido works very well in this build as Nika Luffy Leader let us ramp 2 DONs when 2 or more DONs is returned back to deck, and Kaido can KO Characters over draw power. We've got plenty of draw power in the deck already I think. Although it may not feel like it as some cards need certain conditions in order to draw cards.

Ramp

The ramp of the deck including Nika Luffy Leader. The more we ramp, the sooner we can play our big cost Characters to the field, since this build focus on 8 or more DONs to work. OP09 Zoro works on play, by returning 1 or more DONs on your field, add 1 DON as active. This effect specifically works with Nika Luffy Leader as we can trigger Nika Luffy's effect to get 2 more DONs, so in total, we return 2 to gain 3 DONs in 1 turn. Not too bad for a 3 drop Character, and yes it is only plus 1, but at least we get 2 active DONs.

I am running OP08 Maria because I also running Kaido in the build. Personally, if you are not running Kaido, then Maria don't do too much if we only return 2 DONs at a time to trigger Nika Luffy's effect. Maria's effect is an activate main effect and the effect only works if you have no other Maria Characters in play. You can add up to 5 DONs as rest. Then, at the end of your turn, return DONs to the DON deck until you have the same number of DON as your opponents. Thanks to this effect, it won't become a huge lost when we play Kaido on the field to KO your opponent's Characters.

EB01 Bon Clay is for the ramp, the more we can ramp, the sooner we can play our big drop Characters as well as reaching 8 DONs. Bon Clay have 2 effects, the first effect works on play, add 1 DON as active, very simple. The second effect works when attacking, select 1 of your opponent's Characters. This Character base power becomes the same as the selected Character. So the higher the power, the better for Bon Clay to become a deadly beat stick.

Cost Reducers

As we can use the black card pool, I decided to go with cost reducers, so we can KO your opponent's Characters a lot easier and don't need to target a specific cost to work. Toy Soldier's effect is an activate main effect and this is important as there are a lot of high cost Characters in the build, so you can have him stay on the field and then use the effect when you have a removal in your hand. The effect is you may trash this Character to reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 3 this turn. 3 is a lot, especially when we can target 5 cost or less Characters.

Ice Age is very handy in the build, but of course you don't want too much as it can become a dead card until you draw something you can use with Ice Age. The main effect is reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 5 this turn. This can be very useful at targeting high cost Characters to remove. The trigger effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 3 cost or less Characters. I personally won't use this unless my opponents has a 3 drop or less beat stick that needs to be stop, and just focus on the main effect of this card.

Removals

Just like cost reducers, I am running the 2 removals in the deck. ST14 Sanji has an on play effect, if you have a 6 cost or more Character in play, KO 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Character. Getting a 6 or more Character into playing shouldn't be too difficult as you also have Nika Luffy's effect to increase the cost of your Characters. But I guess the downside is that I am not running any other 5 drop Characters other than Sanji.

ST04 Kaido is our main removal as well as having the Rush ability making this card really useful to run in the deck. The on play effect is by returning 5 DONs, KO 1 of your opponent's 6 cost or less. Then this card gains Rush. We will gain 2 DONs if you haven't used Nika Luffy's effect already, making the number of DONs we return is technically 3 which is not bad. I am thinking to run more Kaido over ST14 Sanji, but it really depends on the type of decks we are against as Kaido cost 9 to play over Sanji 5.

Resting

One more thing we also have in this build is the ability to rest your opponent's Characters. ST18 Usohachi will need 8 DONs on the field for the effect to work. The effect works on play, if you have 8 or more DONs on your field, rest 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. If we combined this with out cost reducers, we could target your opponent's high cost Characters if needed. Usohachi can also be great for defending thanks to the 2k counter we've got on the card.

OP09 Sanji works on play, you may return 1 or more DONs on your field. This Character gains Rush and rest 1 of your opponent's 6 cost or less Characters. This is very similar to our ST04 Kaido in the build, but instead of KOing that Character, we will be resting that Character instead. This plays a role especially if your opponents has Blockers, forcing them to use counters from their hand instead to stop your attacks.

Draw

What I like about these cards is that they are draw power cards instead of being a hand filter effect. Although it seems they've changed the way these are written. We will be trashing cards first before drawing unlike Queen and Kalifa who lets you draw then trash. Both OP09 Franky and ST18 Onami are Blockers with the same trash 1 card to draw 2 cards. The only difference is that Franky needs you to return 2 DONs from your field whilst Onami needs 8 or more DONs. We can mainly play Franky sooner as Onami takes time to set up.

Gum Gum Giant is an Event Counter and the only Event Counter in the build. You can run Jet Gatling if you wanted. The counter effect is by returning 2 DONs from your field, you may trash 1 card from your hand, if your Leader is Straw Hat type, 1 of your Leader or Character cards gains 4k power this battle. Then, draw 2 cards. This effect is not bad especially when the 4k power bonus doesn't need you to have Life requirements to work. We do lose 2 DONs, but it is not like that would be very difficult to recover.

The Supports

Now I don't know how to group these, so I put them in a separate section. OP09 Law is the searcher of the deck, and the only searcher. You can run ST18 Zoro, but Zoro only targets purple Straw Hat to add to hand whilst Law can target Straw Hat from both colours. The effect works on play, look at top 4 cards of your deck, reveal one 2 cost or more Straw Hat or Heart Pirates card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. The only downside is that we can only add cost 2 or more to hand, so we cannot add Gum Gum Giant.

OP07 Sanji is very nice to have in this build even if you can't use the effect. We have Law who can search him out and we also have 2k counter on this card. Sanji is just a Blocker but with an effect, if the number of DONs is at least 2 less than your opponent's field, reduce this cost by 3. This shouldn't be too difficult in this build as we can constantly return DONs back to deck if you play multiple Characters in a turn.

OP06 Moria helps you to bring back Characters from the trash, especially Franky and set up for a Blocker again. The effect works on play, choose one 4 cost or less Character and one 2 cost or less Character from your trash. Play one as active and the other rested. The 2 cost or less can either be Law for searching or Toy Soldier, ready to reduce your opponent's Characters next turn, as the removal and rest effects only works on play.

Nika Luffy is a very situational card and only works if you know you can finish off your opponents on that turn, because there is a huge drawback once you used his effect. Nika Luffy have 2 effects, the first effect works on play, by returning 10 DONs, place all of your Characters except this card to the bottom of your deck in any order. Then, take an extra turn after this turn. It is thanks to the first effect why this card is very situational as you will lose all your other Characters and DONs on that turn. We do get 2 back thanks to Nika Luffy's Leader effect. The second effect is an activate main effect. Once per turn, by paying 1 DON, add 1 DON as active. So in total, we could get 5 back altogether when we play Nika Luffy to the field.
