OP09 Black (Teach) Deck Profile

At first, when I read Blackbeard's Leader effect, I thought he was broken considering that One Piece Card Game have a lot of on play effects. However, after a few testing on the sim, I found out the effect is not broken at all as there is a drawback, so you will need to rely on timing for this Leader to make the full effect of the negate. It will definitely hurt the most when your opponents are trying to set up big plays with on play effects.

OP09 Blackbeard

How it Works?

As you know, Blackbeard Leader locks on play effect, so I am running cards that doesn't have on play effects and just activate main to get around Blackbeard's effect. As you know, if you trigger BB Leader's effect at the right time, it will hurt your opponents plays. It does feel pointless if you trigger this during turn 1 of the game, because this deck doesn't have any draw power, and if you go all discard on BB Leader's effect, it will hurt you during mid to late game of the stages. We have cost reducers to reduce your opponent's Characters cost to KO those Characters. This way, we don't have to worry about defending your opponent's attacks. Well, I guess you do need to know what will be the key cards in your opponent's decks in order to make use of BB Leader's effect, and some on play effects could change the situation of the game dramatically.

Cost Reducers

Not a lot of cost reducers as most of the cost reducers have on play effects. Of course there are some exceptions, but these 3 would be enough. All of them has Activate Main because of BB Leader's effect who restrict on play effects. Stronger works by trashing 1 card in your hand and trashing this Character, if your Leader is Blackbeard Pirates, draw 1 card. Then, reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 2 this turn. The nice thing about this card is that we get to draw a card, so we don't end up losing cards in our hand, as we need to save some cards for BB Leader's effect.

The price for EB01 Laboon have went up dramatically, but that's only because of the JP Meta. For the EN Meta, BB decks aren't really dominating, so Laboon pricing will drop down if we wait for a while. Although OP10 set have more BB Pirates supports, making this deck better. The effect is you may rest this Character to reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 4 this turn. We will lose a 5k beat stick for a turn, but reducing your opponent's Characters cost by 4 can make a huge difference.

The final cost reduce of the deck is Van Augur. Not as good as Laboon's effect, but he is a BB Pirates and a 6k beat stick we could use. The effect is you may rest this Character, if your Leader is BB Pirates type, reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 3. It is only 3, however, we do have an On KO effect which lets you draw a card. The draws will play a role in this build for this deck who lacks draw power to get a decent hand size.

Removals

There's not a lot of removals in this build which I personally think is the downside of the deck. Without removals, we can't reduce the number of attacks your opponents can do. Doc Q works by resting this Character, if your Leader is BB Pirates, KO 1 of your opponent's 1 cost or less Characters. I don't think 1 cost or less will be too difficult if we've got Laboon or Van Augur on the field. The second effect works on KO which is draw a card just Van Augur. The extra draw power will always help to refill the hand size.

Finger Pistol is great for the build as we also need the mill to power up a certain Character in this build. The effect is you may trash 2 cards from the top of your deck to KO 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. I think the effect is worth it, especially combined with Laboon or Van Augur, we could remove most high cost Characters. The trigger effect is activate this card's main effect.

Searchers

What I like about BB deck is that we have access to searchers, and these 3 cards are all in just 1 set. Laffite works by paying 1 DON and resting this Character to look at top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 BB Pirates card and add it to your hand. Place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. This is just the typical searcher we've seen so far.

My Era Begins is different from Laffite instead of looking at top 5 cards, we can only look at top 3. Look at top 3 cards of your deck, reveal 1 BB Pirates card other than My Era Begins and add it to your hand. Place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. The trigger effect is activate this card's main effect.

Fullalead is a nice hand filter card, we don't gain card with this Stage, but we also don't lose cards. The effect is you may trash 1 card from your hand and rest this stage, look at top 3 cards of your deck, reveal 1 BB Pirates card and add it to your hand. Place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. We look at the same amount of card just like My Era Begins, but as this is a Stage card, we can use this effect once per turn.

Negating Effects

BB Leader is not the only one who can negate on play Characters. We also have 2 cards in the build who can also negate effects. 10 drop BB is a Blocker with an effect that works once per turn. If your Leader is BB Pirates type and this Character was played on this turn, negate the effect of 1 of your opponent's Leader during this turn. Then, negate the effect of 1 of your opponent's Characters and that Character cannot attack until the end of their turn. This will depends on what kind of Leader your opponent will be playing, as some doesn't matter and some would want to constantly spam the effect. But at least we can stop at least 2 attacks as BB is a 12k Blocker once on the field.

Black Hole one of BB's moves, and just like the series, we can KO your opponent's Characters. However, we can also nullify effects with this card which is great against certain cards who prevents from being KO. The effect is if your Leader is BB Pirates, negate the effect of 1 of your opponent's Characters during this turn. Then, if that Character's cost is 4 or less, KO it. Just like Finger Gun, this is not difficult to do with the cost reducers in the deck. The trigger effect is negate the effect of 1 of your opponent's Leader or Character cards this turn. This trigger effect might be useful depending on what your opponent have on the field.

Blackbeard Pirates Supports

Now for the BB Pirates Support, we have these cards. Vasco is just a Blocker, can't expand on this whilst OP09 Shiryu is a hand filter. You need to attach a DON to Shiryu for the effect to work. When attacking, you may trash 2 cards from your hand to draw 2 cards. Unfortunately, we do need to trash first in order to draw, and if your hand is okay, then we don't really want to use this effect. At least he has 2k counter which will be nice for defending.

Burgess is 1 of the key card in the deck. The more cards you get in the trash, the more power Burgess becomes. The effect is this Character can't be KO'd by your opponent's effects. If your Leader is BB Pirates type, this Character gains 1k for every 4 cards in your trash. If you can get at least 16, that's 9k beat stick for Burgess which is not bad for a 4 drop Character. Not to mention that this is a continuous effect, meaning the power boost will carry on during your opponent's turn, and we don't have to use as much counters to protect Burgess from your opponent's attacks unless they've attached a lot of DONs.
