In OP10, we would get more Dressrosa support, but do those supports work for Kyros build? We will have to find out when the set get release in English. Kyros is a build similar to Smoker where we need to reduce your opponent's Characters cost to 0 in order for the Leader to gain benefits. But unlike Smoker, we get to use the yellow card pool for our own benefits, so this gives us several options for this build.
OP08 Kyros |
---|
Leader Characters x43 Events x7 |
How it Works?
This is not as straightforward as Smoker build where we can focus on reducing your opponent's Character's cost to 0. In order to use Kyros's effect, we need to flip our Life cards face up, and there is a limit in how many we can do. The key cards in this build would be Viola and Hiyori who would be able to flip the top card face down, so we can use Kyros's effect again.
The other options to trigger Kyros's effect will be Life gain as we get new cards and place them face down. However, for Life Gain choices, there's not really a lot to choose from as most of them are very situational. So I have chosen Kiku and Ace as the safest option for this build, and also they are the easiest to trigger Life Gain.
Cost Reducers
I've mostly kept the core cost reducers deck like Smoker build, I want to run more, but we need room for other cards, especially when the Leader have 2 colours instead of 1. 4 drop Kuzan has 2 effects, the first effect works on play, draw 1 card. The second effect is the main effect we are after. The effect works when attacking, reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 4 this turn. 4 is a lot, especially against 4-5 drop Characters, so we could get those Characters down to 0.
OP02 Tsuru is still very handy in these kind of builds. The effect works on play, reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 2 this turn. I know 2 is not a lot compare to 4, but don't forget Tsuru is a 1 drop Character. So if we need a quick cost reducing effect, Tsuru is the card to use, otherwise we can use her for the 2k counter during the counter step.
The main card of the deck, 10 drop Kuzan, just like his 4 drop version, we've got 2 effects. The first effect works on your turn, reduce all of your opponent's Characters cost by 5. This is important as it is a continuous effect, and reducing your opponent's field by 5 which makes KOing those Characters a lot easier. The second effect works on play, KO 1 of your opponent's 0 cost Character. So if we combined this with Kyros, we could potentially KO 2 Characters, assuming those cards will reach 0 cost when you play 10 drop Kuzan.
OP03 Issho works similar to 10 drop Kuzan, but cheaper to play. There are two effects for Issho, the first effect will require you to attach a DON to Issho for the effect to work. Reduce all of your opponent's Characters cost by 3. I know 3 is not a lot compare to 10 drop Kuzan's 5, but if we combine with other cards, then 3 can be quite deadly. The second effect works on play, if your opponent have 6 cards in their hand, trash 2 cards from their hand. This is just a nice hand destruction effect to force your opponents to discard some cards in their hand.
One of the best Events for this kind of deck is Ice Age. I am more focus on the main effect than the trigger effect. The main effect is reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 5 this turn. Just like 10 drop Kuzan, reducing your opponent's Characters by 5 can be really handy, especially if we need 0 cost Characters for certain effects. The trigger effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 3 cost or less Characters. I personally won't use this unless my opponents has a 3 drop or less beat stick that needs to be stop.
Removals
There is a limit in term of how many times we could use Kyros's effect which is why I've also decided to run these removals in the build, to make your opponent uses more DONs from their hand. EB01 Brook works on play or when attacking. Reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 1 this turn. Then, KO 1 of your opponent's 0 cost Characters. Not only Brook can KO your opponent's Characters, but we can also reduce your opponent's Characters cost by 1 constantly. This shouldn't be too difficult as we have a lot of cost reducers in this build.
OP07 Luffy requires us to have low health for the effect to work. The effect is an activate main effect. You may trash this card, if you have 2 or less Life, KO 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters. Then, draw 1 card. So not only we get to KO Characters, but we can also draw a card, and not only that, you can also attack with Luffy first before you use his effect. The trigger effect is basically like the main effect but without the draw power. KO 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters.
OP08 Jack is decent in this build, and can be one of your constant removals like Brook. The first effect is this Character gains 4 cost, making Jack a 11 cost Character, making your opponents difficult to remove, as Jack is a 11 cost Character instead of 7. The second effect is an activate main effect, you may rest this Character to draw and trash 1 card from your hand. Then, KO up to 1 of your opponent's 3 cost or less Characters. 3 or less is a lot easier to do than getting your opponent's Characters down to 0.
Life Gain
The first way for us to constantly activate Kyros's effect is our Life gain cards. EB01 Shirahoshi is a nice 2 drop Blocker to have with an effect. When this Character is KO'd by your opponent's effects, add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. This is pretty much a win win situation, because if they don't KO this card, we get a Blocker to use to stop your opponent's attacks, and if they do KO this card by effects, we gain a life. Of course there are ways to bypass this effect, so it will depends on the type of deck you are playing against.
Kiku is a card that works on KO, if your opponent has 3 or less Life, add 1 card from top of your deck to top of your Life. Just like Shirahoshi, this card can put pressure against your opponents, because if they do KO Kiku, we gain a life, but if they don't KO Kiku, they will have to deal with a 6k beat stick or more if you decided to put DONs on Kiku.
OP07 Ace is a 10 drop Character, but what I really like is the effect. The effect on play, add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. Then, if you have 2 or less Life, this Character gains Rush. If you don't care about Rush and just want to trigger Kyros's effect, then Ace is amazing, but if you do care about Rush (as we are spending 10 DONs to play him), then you will need to wait until your Life cards is down to 1.
One Who Should Disappear is mainly for the trigger effect, but the counter effect is nice to have if we have plenty of non counter cards. The counter effect is the same as any other colours. You may trash 1 card from your hand, 1 of your Leader or Characters gains 3k power this battle. What's different between these cards will be their trigger effects, and this trigger effect is if you have 0 Life, you may add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. Then, trash 1 card from your hand. This effect, you have to be very lucky unless you use Hiyori's effect to place this card at the bottom of your Life area.
Flipping the Life Cards
Here we have 2 cards who doesn't gain Life, but flip the cards around so we could reuse Kyros's effect. EB01 Viola is a Blocker with an on play effect, you either look at your opponent's Life area and arrange them in any order you like, or we get to flip all our Life cards face down. Either effects are great, but we would most likely be using the second option, unless you really want to use the first option.
OP06 Hiyori works different than Viola, we actually swap cards with the cards in our hand. Now, this might be a problem because this build barely run any Trigger cards, so swapping cards from hand to life might be a problem. Although I don't really care much about triggering Trigger effects, instead we want to trigger Kyros's effect. The effect works on play, you may add the top or bottom card to your hand to add 1 card from your hand to top of your Life.
Navy Supports
I am running the Navy supports since most of the cost reducers are Navy cards, so I've decided to run these cards. You do not have to run them in your build as you can also run OP04 Sabo along with OP02 Kizaru (Borsalino). Kizaru is a Blocker with an effect that works during your opponent's turn. The effect is this Character gains 1k power and cannot be KO'd by effects. So he is a nice 4 drop 6k Blocker to stop your opponent's early attacks with their 5k beat stick. Of course there will be ways to get around this effect, especially when it comes to your turn.
Brannew is just a searcher, but can easily be replaced if you don't need the search. I personally want the search effect so we can search for our cost reducers and trigger Kyros's effect as soon as possible. The only cost reducer we won't be able to search is 10 drop Kuzan who is a former Navy card and not Navy specific. Brannew's effect works on play, look at the top 3 cards of your deck, add 1 Navy card to your hand, mill the rest. He is not the standard Navy searcher, but it will do for this build until we eventually get one for black colour.
