Just like Nika Luffy build, you will only need the starter deck to upgrade this deck, but unlike Nika Luffy, we are running a splash of green in the build rather than focusing on one colour for a multicoloured Leader. Yamato is still one of my favourite decks I like to play, especially combined with the new starter deck supports, this deck has become really aggressive.
ST28 Yamato |
---|
Leader Character (46) Event (4) |
How it Works?
This build mainly focus around the Leader Yamato to trigger the Double Attack ability. However, we don't want to give your opponents cards which is why we need to play cards like Onami and ST28 Izo to give our Leader Banish. Banish + Double Attack is a deadly combination as it will force your opponents to lose 2 cards from their Life area instead of getting them to their hand. Of course, there's always the counters part, but how many counters they can use to stop Yamato's attack, not many, especially we will need to power up our Leader with DONs or Tonoyasu's effect.
If you can get your opponent down to 3 or less Life cards, you will be able to trigger this entire deck requirements, especially Yamato's Leader effect to start attaching rested DONs to your Characters. But personally, I don't want my opponents to get 2 Life cards to their hand, unless I am desperately needing to activate some effects in my hand, so I would wait to draw my Banish cards, and 1 of them can be searched out from the deck.
Leader Supports
As you know, we have 4 cards that mainly resolves around the Leader, but some can be used on Characters if need to. ST28 Izo has 2 effects, the first effect will require 2 DONs for Izo to gain Blocker, but what I am aiming for is Izo's second effect. The second effect works on play, your Wano Leader gains Banish for the turn. More Banish for the deck is great, especially now that we don't have to rely on 1 card Onami to get the Banish keyword.
OP06 Onami is also in the deck for the same reason as ST28 Izo, however, Onami also has a trigger effect which is useful if we don't need the Banish effect. The effect works on play, your Leader or 1 of your Characters gains Banish for the turn. We do not have to give the Banish to Yamato Leader, especially if they've only got 1 Life card left, we could give the Banish to 1 of our high power Characters instead. The trigger effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. The trigger effect is definitely useful to get rid of some of your opponent's Characters.
Tonoyasu is similar to Onami where we can target our Characters and not just the Leader only. The effect is an activate main effect where you trash this Character, your Leader or 1 of your Characters gains 3k power for the turn. Personally, this is a lot better than giving DONs to your Leader as 3k is a lot of power, but if we combined this with DON power, we can hit a decent number, or force a lot of counters from your opponent's hand.
Lastly we have ST28 Momo who is pretty strong in this build if we can pulled off the effect. Momo has 2 effects, the first effect works during your turn, if you have 2 or less Life cards, your Leader gains 1k power. That 1k power could be handy as we want to be as aggressive as possible against your opponents. The second effect is an activate main effect, you may return a total of 2 currently attached DONs on your field to your DON area rested. This Character gains Rush and 1k power for the turn. You only need to trigger this effect once for the Rush ability, unless you really want the 1k power up constantly. Might be useful if you've got nothing else to play and have all the untap DONs to use.
Rest
For the green part of the deck, I am only running these cards and the Event which focus on resting your opponent's Characters. The rest part is very handy because this deck is meant to be aggressive as possible, and your opponents could easily stop your Yamato combo with a Blocker instead of using counters from their hand. OP01 Izo works on play, rest 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters. Another reason why I am running Izo is because of the 2k counter which will be very handy for defense.
Hody not only has the rest effect, but also have Rush giving this build more aggressive option along with ST28 Momo. The effect works on play, rest up to a total of 2 of your opponent's Characters or DONs. Then, add the top Life card to your hand. We do lose a Life card but it doesn't matter too much if we can finish off your opponents.
The Life Area
As you know, we have 3 cards who can swap some cards in our Life area, 2 of them are more like Life Gain effect, whilst one of them will be swapping cards around. OP06 Hiyori has 2k counter, so even if you don't have any Life cards, the 2k counter could be useful for defence. The effect works on play, add the top or bottom of your Life cards to your hand to add 1 card from your hand to the top of your Life cards. There are plenty of trigger effects we can trigger, it is just depends on which effects you will be needing when you play Hiyori.
Kiku is the best for this deck as Yamato's Double Attack ability can easily fill the requirements of Kiku's effect. The effect works on KO, if your opponent has 3 or less Life, add 1 card from top of your deck to top of your Life area. The trigger effect is also very easy to trigger as the requirements is similar to the on KO effect. The trigger effect is if your opponent has 3 or less Life, play this card, giving you some board presence on the field.
OP06 Momo is a Blocker but also depends on what cards you have on the field as it would be best if you choose a card with Trigger effect, or ST28 Izo to reuse the on play effect. The effect works on play, add 1 Wano Character other than Momo to top or bottom of the owner's Life area face up. ST28 Izo would be the best choice if we want to constantly spam Banish keyword, however you could also target ST28 Yamato for more search effect, well it depends on what have you've got on the field to make use of the on play effect.
Wano Supports
As for the rest of the Wano supports, most of them are from the starter deck rather than booster packs. ST28 Yamato is our searcher for the deck. You can run OP01 Momo if you want the constant search effect, but we could use this Yamato for an attack. Just like ST28 Momo, Yamato has 2 effects. The first effect will require you to attach 2 DONs for this effect to work. During your turn, this Character gains 3k power, making Yamato a 5k beat stick altogether. 5k beat stick is enough to take out some of your opponent's Characters or Leader if needed. The second effect works on play, look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal one 2 cost or more Wano card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. On the bright side, this card is your only 1 drop Wano card in the build as the rest will be searchable with this effect.
ST28 Doji is only useful during the early game unless your opponent can constantly recover their Life area with Life cards. The effect works on play, if your Leader is Wano and your opponent has 3 or more Life cards, KO 1 of your opponent's 5 cost base Characters. The one advantage if Yamato doesn't hit, we could play Doji to KO your opponent's Characters, making your opponents needing even more cards to be played on the field.
ST28 Kin'emon is a vanilla, but a 2k vanilla we could use even if we can't trigger the trigger effect. The trigger effect is if your Leader is Wano and your opponent has 3 or less Life cards, play this card. This is similar to the OP06 Wano Trigger effects but this time we have Wano Leader restrictions, so we can't play this card in other decks like other cards.
OP06 Cat Viper is an alternative choice in removing your opponent's Characters if Doji's effect become useless. You will need to attach 2 DONs on this card for the effect to work. This Character can attack also attack active Characters. We rarely have any removal in this build, so Cat Viper can be very useful in those situations. The trigger effect is the exact same as Kiku where if your opponent has 3 or less Life, play this card, giving you more Characters on the field ready to attack during your next turn.
Events
The only 2 Events I am using for this build, but it is personal preference in this section as we want to be aggressive as possible with this build. Who Should Disappear is yellow 0 cost Event Counter. The counter effect is the same as any other colours. You may trash 1 card from your hand, 1 of your Leader or Characters gains 3k power for this battle. The trigger effect can be triggered using Hiyori's effect as we could place this card in the Life area if you only got 1 Life card left. The trigger effect is if you have 0 Life cards, you may add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. Then, trash 1 card from your hand.
Demon Nine Flash is in the build for additional rest effect, plus powering up your Leader, so we can hit decent number. Not to mention, this Event cost 2 to play, so we could attach 2 rested DONs to 1 of our Characters using the Leader's effect. The effect is your Leader or 1 of your Characters gains 3k power for this turn. Then, you may rest 1 of your 3 cost or more Characters to rest 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. The downside is we will be sacrificing 1 of our beat sticks, but that only depends if you've got Doji or OP01 Izo on the field. The trigger effect is rest 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters.
