ST18 Red/Purple (Luffy) Deck Profile

Just a fun deck I've decided to build and the new Straw Hat supports works pretty well for this build. Unfortunately to fit the key cards, we would have to take out the power base cards, unless we ignore the ST18 cards and keep the deck build at it is. The new ST18 support will give us more search and draw power which the previous don't have and for a Leader who starts at 3 Life, we need to burn a lot of cards early to stop your opponent's attacks.

ST18 RP Luffy

How it Works?

This build heavily focus on the Straw Hat engine so we could search cards to gain enough cards in hand to use counters as we only start with 3 Life. The 2 main card we need are OP05 Zorojuro and EB01 Bon Clay as they are our ramp cards. The sooner we ramp, the sooner we can play our big drops like Whitebeard to power up the Leader. Although I'm thinking of replacing Whitebeard with ST10 Kid as ST10 Kid has more of a permanent power up bonus for the Leader rather than 1 time only. Although Whitebeard is a 10k beat stick which will be very handy as we need all the beat stick we can get to get through your opponent's Life cards as soon as possible.

Ramp

As you can see, we don't have much ramp, but 1 of the ramp cards can easily be searched out thanks to the searchers. EB01 Bon Clay have 2 effects, the first effect works on play, add 1 DON as active. The second effect works when attacking, select 1 of your opponent's Characters. This Character base power becomes the same power as the select Character. So the more power your opponent has, the better Bon Clay could become a deadly beat stick.

OP05 Zorojuro aka Zoro works the best with ST10 Luffy as we only start with 3 Life, easily triggering this effect. The effect works when attacking, if you have 3 or less Life, add 1 DON as active. The only downside to Zoro is that he is a 4k beat stick, so if you are not attacking 4k or less Characters, you will need to give him a DON or 2 to hit the magic number. Although you could swing with Zoro just to get the ramp, but I think hitting the magic number will be better.

Draw

What I like about these cards is that they are actually draw power cards and not just a hand filter effect, so we will get a decent amount of hand size if we can trigger these card's effects. ST04 Queen is a Blocker with an on play effect. The on play effect is by returning 1 DON, draw 2 cards and trash 1 card from your hand. We do return a DON, but it doesn't matter too much in this build where if we can reach 8 DONs, we can trigger most of the card's effects.

ST18 Onami is also a Blocker with an on play effect, if you have 8 or more DONs on your field, trash 1 card from your hand and draw 2 cards. This is very different than ST04 Queen as we need to discard first to draw whereas Queen let us draw then discard. I do prefer draw and trash as you might need the cards in your hand currently instead of finding a card to trash so we could draw.

ST18 Sangoro works when attacking, if you have 8 or more DONs on your field, draw a card. Not bad for a 6k beat stick, especially if we can get the draw power going to constantly increase your hand rather than using Queen or Onami's effect. We do have a card that can play Sangoro for free in this build, so you won't need to hard play Sangoro if you draw that Character.

Searchers

Not only we got draw power to increase our hand size, but we also got 2 Straw Hat searchers to increase our hand size, since most of the build is mainly filled up with Straw Hat cards.  OP01 Nami works on play, look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 Straw Hat card other than Nami and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. This is the best turn 1 play we could do in order to search for the key cards in this build as there are no colour restrictions.

ST18 Zorojuro on the other hand is limited to purple Straw Hat cards, which is why I've decided to focus more on the purple side rather than a mix of red and purple Straw Hats. The effect works on play, look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 purple Straw Hat card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. I guess the difference is that Zorojuro can search himself which is important as we are also running OP05 Zorojuro who is a key card in this build.

Straw Hat Supports

OP01 Nami can search out all of these Straw Hats whilst ST18 Zorojuro will only be able to search out the purple Straw Hats. Well the key cards are on the purple side, so Zorojuro will be searching out lots of important cards. OP05 Robin is a removal. The effect works on play, KO 1 of your opponent's 1k power or less Characters. Unfortunately, I am not running any power reducers in this build, so we can't make the full use of Robin's effect.

You will need to attach a DON to Franosuke in order for the effect to work. If you have 8 or more DONs, this card gains Rush. On top of this effect, he also has 2k counter, so this will be very handy during the early stages where we need to use counters to stop your opponent's attacks.

Nika Luffy is mainly a last resort card, you will only play him if you know, you can finish off your opponents once you used his effect. Otherwise, there will be a lot of cons about this card. Nika Luffy have 2 effects, the first effect works on play, by returning 10 DONs, place all of your Characters except this card to the bottom of your deck in any order. Then, take an extra turn after this turn. This effect plays a key part of this card as if you failed to win after you took an extra turn, it will really hurt. The second effect is an activate main effect. Once per turn, by paying 1 DON, add 1 DON as active. This effect is mainly after you finished using Nika Luffy's on play effect, so we could ramp a few more DONs if we need to.

ST18 Usohachi will need 8 DONs on the field for the effect to work. The effect works on play, if you have 8 or more DONs on your field, rest 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. So we could rest any Blockers or try and remove your opponent's 5 cost Characters by attacking them. Just like Franosuke, Usohachi also has 2k counter which will be very useful during the early stages of the game where we need to protect the Leader from taking damage.

Lastly Luffytaro only works with purple Straw Hat Characters and not the red side of Straw Hats. The effect works on play, by returning 1 DON, you may play 1 purple 5 cost or less Straw Hat Character from your hand. Thanks to Luffytaro, we could play Sangoro to set up the attack for next turn, or play ST18 Zorojuro so we could trigger the search effect. I guess there are also other options to choose from, but it will really depends on which Characters you got in your hand and what is on the field.

Power

OP02 Whitebeard is the only power up card we got in this build. You could try fitting Kid as well in this build but for the room wise it will be really tight unless we reduce some numbers to fit Kid in the build, so we can have 2 cards powering up the Leader rather than 1. It will be better if you can fit both since we need all the defences we can as we only start with 3 Life.

Whitebeard have 2 effects, the first effect works on play, 1 of your Leader gains 2k power until the start of your next turn. Then, you cannot add Life cards to your hand with your own effect. This part of the effect doesn't matter as we are mainly aiming for the power up bonus. The second effect works when attacking, but you need to give 2 DONs to Whitebeard to work, KO up to 1 of your opponent's 3k power or less Characters.

Events

All of these Events are Straw Hat cards, so we can search them out using OP01 Nami's effect whilst ST18 Zorojuro can only search out Jet Gatling out of the three Events. Radical Beam is an Event Counter, the counter effect is 1 of your Leader or Characters gains 2k power this battle. Then, if you have 2 or less Life that card gains an additional 2k power. This will mean, one of your card will get 4k power in total, and plus since we are starting with 3 Life, we only need to take 1 hit to trigger this requirement which is very easy to do. The Trigger effect is 1 of your Leader or Characters gains 1k power this turn. This effect last until the end of turn, so making Luffy Leader a 7k base power.

Jet Gatling is a 0 cost Event Counter which the counter effect is the same as all the colours. The counter effect is you may trash 1 card from your hand, 1 of your Leader or Character gains 3k power this battle. The trigger effect is very simple as we get to add 1 DON as active. This will be important if we want to ramp up as soon as possible.

Diable Jambe is a card which let us stop Blockers, and would work really well with Nika Luffy who is 12k beat stick, meaning your opponents will need a lot of counters to stop the attack. You can use this with Luffy Leader if you want to finish off your opponents on that turn. The effect is 1 of your Straw Hat Leader or Character will prevent Blockers from activating when they attack. The trigger effect lets you KO 1 of your opponents Blocker with Character cost 3 or less.
