OP08 Yellow (Vegapunk) Deck Profile

With the help of new Egghead stuff in OP08 set, it made Vegapunk build a lot better to use. However, the one major downside to this build is that we start with 2 Life. Its better if your opponents don't play aggro decks, but if they do, that 2 Life can be gone very quick, making the game end. But against mid range to long turn decks, Vegapunk will become effect. Then again, it will depends on what card you have draw as not drawing the right cards to set up the Life cards could really hurt.

OP08 Vegapunk

How it Works?

A very simple build where we max out all the Egghead cards so we could make use of Vegapunk's effect by adding those cards to Life area. I barely use the effect to play these Characters for free unless you want to. Don't forget, you only start with 2 Life, so you really want to fill up the Life area as soon as possible, so you could survive the attacks. There's plenty of draw power, so hand size shouldn't be too much of a problem. All you need to do is focus on getting the right trigger effects onto the Life area, so when your opponent's attacks, you can use those trigger effects with restrictions.

The Satellites

Only 3 Satellite cards and they all have the exact same trigger effect which is if your Leader is Vegapunk, play this card. The only difference will be their main effects, but one of them got a basic ability like Shaka for example who is just a 6k Blocker. He is very important as we start with low health.

Edison works on play, if you have 2 or less Life, draw 2 cards and trash 2 cards from your hand. The effect is just a hand filter to filter out the cards we won't be needing currently, but we also have a 2k counter on this card, which is great for defending especially since we start with low health.

Lastly, we've got Lilith. Lilith is a searcher for Egghead cards, but an expensive searcher as she cost 3 to play instead of 1. The effect works on play, look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 Egghead card other than Lilith and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. I guess she is a 5k beat stick unlike the other standard searcher with a trigger effect that could play her for free.

Straw Hat Pirates

All of these Straw Hats are still from the Egghead arc, but you know, they deserve their own category instead of calling them Egghead supports. OP07 Robin and Franky only has a trigger effect. Robin's trigger effect is if your Leader is Egghead, draw 2 cards. She is your main draw engine to increase your hand size whilst Franky's trigger effect is draw 1 card, then if you have 1 or less Life, play this card. We can still draw cards using Franky's effect but we do want to play him on the field for the 5k beat stick to swing at your opponent's cards.

OP07 Luffy is used more in Black/Yellow Luffy rather than Vegapunk build, so the price of this card won't be cheap. The main effect is an activate main, you may trash this Character, if your Life is 2 or less, KO 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters, then, draw 1 card. Very easy to do in this build, and since the effect is an activate main, we can attack with Luffy first, then use the effect to KO something as well as getting the extra draw power. The Trigger effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters, similar to the main effect, but that's only if you are desperate to stop your opponent's attacks, otherwise, we want to keep Luffy in hand more than Life area.

OP08 Nami works really well in these kind of builds that focus on trigger effects. The effect works on play, you may trash 1 card with trigger from your hand to KO 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. Then, if you have 3 or less cards in your hand, draw 1 card. This is similar to OP07 Luffy in this build, but we do get to KO 1 cost higher Characters. Personally, the only problem you will get is getting your hand to 3 or less cards so you could draw a card. But if you use counters early, I don't think this would be too difficult to do. The trigger effect is just activate this card's on play effect.

Egghead Supports

Now for more Egghead supports for the deck, and 2 of them are from OP08 set. OP08 Bonney works during your turn, but you will need to attach a DON to her for the effect to work. Once per turn, when a card is removed from your opponent's Life cards, draw 2 cards and trash 1 card from your hand. Now you only need to have Bonney on the field for the effect to work and don't need to attack with her. The draw power is basically the same as ST04 Queen where we +1 in hand, but we can search the right cards needed to stop your opponents in this build. The trigger effect is draw 2 cards and trash 1 card from your hand. It is up to you if you want to use this effect or not.

Personally, I think S Snake is one of the key card in this build to slow down your opponents unless they have Luffy Characters, or Characters cost higher than 6. The effect works on play, 1 of your opponent's 6 cost or less Characters other than Luffy cannot attack until the end of your opponent's next turn. As Vegapunk Leader starts with low health, we want to stop some attacks as soon as possible, so we can build up the number of Life cards. The trigger effect is activate this card's on play effect which is the exact same as OP08 Nami.

Brilliant Mind is a searcher, the main effect is look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 Egghead card other than Brilliant Mind and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of the deck in any order. This will be a great turn 1/2 play to search out the key cards  in the build. The trigger effect is just draw 1 card. I don't think this is too important unless you have low hand size and need that extra draw to use counters against your opponents.

I requasar help is a 1 drop Event Counter. The counter effect is if you have 2 or less Life, 1 of your Leader/Characters gains 3k power this battle. 2 or less Life is very easy to do in this build, but the main thing I want to talk about is the Trigger effect. The trigger effect is play one 5 cost or less Egghead Character from your trash. Thanks to this effect, we could set up the field, but not only that, it means we could use our 5 cost Characters early for counter so we could set up this trigger effect.

Non Egghead Supports

The only non Egghead cards are these 2. OP04 Yamato works great in Vegapunk if we can survive until 9 DONs to play this card. The effect works on play, KO 1 of your opponent's Characters with cost equal or less the the total cards in both player's Life area. Then, if you have 1 or less Life cards, add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. So we could play Yamato first to get the Life gain ability and if we've got spare DONs, we can use Vegapunk's effect to gain another Life, so in 1 turn, we could gain 2 Life in one go.

Who Should Disappear is yellow 0 cost Event Counter. The counter effect is the same as any other colours. You may trash 1 card from your hand, 1 of your Leader or Characters gains 3k power this battle. What's different between these cards will be their trigger effects, and this trigger effect is if you have 0 Life, you may add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. Then, trash 1 card from your hand.
