The released date have been revealed on the Gundam Card Game website with starter decks, booster set and accessories. I can't wait for this game to come out, although I will need to empty some spaces for this game. Might get rid off my Digimon stuff as Digimon is becoming way to expensive for me, especially when I compare them to my One Piece decks which are lot cheaper to build, and don't need promos to make the deck work.
The release date is in July, however, it is very weird because the starter deck and the booster set is not released on the same day, but the accessories are. But it does make sense for accessories, or else, how can we sleeves our decks. I know other brand exists, and I mainly double sleeves my decks using anime sleeves. Although, because this is Gundam, I really want to get Gundam related sleeves, rather than using my anime sleeves.
Starter Decks
When I saw the pricing, I thought it was expensive, but this is the price of special edition starter decks. Normal edition are still price around $11.99 which is very standard for Bandai card games. All of them will get a bonus pack, and my first thought it, people will just buy this for the booster pack and sell the rest. Its been like that for previous Digimon where we had booster pack instead of random promo cards.
The $34.99 includes 3 Gunpla Miniatures, unfortunately, Bandai took the lazy route, we have to paint those Miniatures instead of being straight assemble, this is just like Warhammer. Painting is not my strong point, so I'm not even going to paint them. Below is a video below showing Gunpla Miniatures.
I also have a feeling, the community would create a Tabletop game for these miniatures if Bandai hasn't made one for these already. I mean why not, I always wanted to try Tabletop Gundam, but we don't have models small enough, maybe SD. However, these miniatures are the perfect size. They are not for Card Games only as we can do more with these if we use our imaginations.
For starter decks, the set are very weird. Some are combined and some are single series starter decks. I don't know what I'll be getting, I might buy all of them, but buying the special edition would already cost me over $120, because I want the miniatures, unless people are selling the miniatures.
Heroic Beginnings - The starter deck will include both OG Gundam and Witch of the Mercury series.
Wings of Advance - Focus on Gundam Wing Series.
Zeon's Rush - Both OG Gundam and Gundam Unicorn series.
SEED Strike - As in the name, focus on Gundam Seed series, doesn't include Destiny.
My prediction will be Gundam Seed starter deck will be the most sale, as it is the most fan favourite series out of the Gundam franchise. Their mobile suit does looks good, story on the other hand depends how you can take it. But lets not look at it this way, as this is a card game that involves style, everyone just wants the best if you care about being competitive. But people who just plays for the series (like me) will be aiming to collect them more than focusing on competitive meta. Although I DO WANT TO BUY ALL OF THEM. Not even One Piece or Digimon have been that tempting before.
Booster Set
GD01 will be released on July 25th, 2 weeks after the released date of the starter deck. Obviously, the set will support the current starter decks, otherwise it would make no sense at all in buying the starter deck.
As we can see, it will be their main mobile suits, and I see Freedom. I do prefer Strike Freedom over Freedom but Strike Freedom is in Seed Destiny. I want to talk about each of these series, but if you just here for the card game, then I won't bored you. If they cover 5 Gundam series per set, then it won't be long to they get some of my favourite Gundam series. Too bad it is not predictable with UC and CE series split up, as here we can see a mix of timeline.
Accessories
I'm most likely buying them all on top of the special starter deck. Well maybe not the deck box unless its leather with the logos like Zeon or Earth Federation. But definitely get the damage counter. It beats using dice as marker. That was the old classic way to mark something on your cards. I am not sure about the card sleeves as there are already some great Gundam series sleeves out there. There are expensive considering I need to import them from Japan, but for the art, they might be worth it over card game version.
