OP08 Purple (Kaido) Deck Profile

The new cards in OP08 set suits purple Kaido really well, especially when we can constantly spam this Leader's effect without worrying about losing 7 DONs in a turn. I personally think Kaido is one of the old Starter deck Leader where we can actually make changes using some cards from the new sets. Purple do have a lot of powerful cards, it is all about putting them together in a deck.

OP08 Kaido

How it Works?

With the introduction of Big Mom Pirates for purple, we now have Life gain abilities in this build. Previously, we only got ramp, hand destruction, life trashing and KOing effects. Now we've got Life gains to make us last longer in games. The key point of this build is definitely ramp, without ramp, you wouldn't play most of your cards with ease. Both OP08 Maria and Onigashima Island plays important role in this build and without them, the build won't work as efficient. It is thanks to them, we can constantly spam Kaido Leader effect trashing your opponent's Life cards so we can just focus on reducing your opponent's board.

Ramp

The more we can ramp, the sooner we can play our big drops as well as using Kaido Leader's effect to trash your opponent's Life cards. EB01 Bon Clay have 2 effects, the first effect works on play add 1 DON as active. This is just a simple ramp effect. The second effect works when attacking, select 1 of your opponent's Characters. This Character's base power becomes the same power as the selected Character during this turn. So the more power your opponent has on the field, the better Bon Clay becomes.

OP04 Ms All Sunday will be very handy as not only she ramps, but she also gives you draw power which can be useful. The effect works on play, add 1 DON as rest, then if you have 6 or more DONs, draw 1 card. This is not difficult to do especially when we are playing All Sunday for 5. The trigger effect is optional, you don't have to if you don't have the requirements for the on play effect, but if you do, I would recommend getting her on the field ready. The trigger effect is by returning 2 DONs, play this card.

OP05 Kid and OP08 Pudding has really similar effects, except Kid is also a Blocker we could use to stop your opponent's attacks. Both effect triggers when a DON on your field is returned to DON deck. OP05 Kid will let you add a DON as active whilst Pudding lets you add a DON as rest. Obviously I would take the active more than rest, but at least they both reduce the amount of DONs we needed to return.

OP08 Maria is our key card, especially when we use Kaido Leader's effect. Maria's effect is an activate main effect and the effect only works if you have no other Maria Characters in play. You can add up to 5 DONs as rest. Then, at the end of your turn, return DONs to the DON deck until you have the same number of DON as your opponents. The more DONs your opponent has, the less DONs we need to return, especially when we use Kaido Leader's effect by returning 7 DONs, so we still -2 DONs, but we can get that back during our next turn.

Onigashima is another of our key cards, the sooner we see this Stage, the earlier we can ramp and play our high cost Characters. The effect is you may rest this Stage, if your Leader is Animal Kingdom Pirates, add 1 DON as rest. Basically, if we can play this stage on Turn 2 or 3, we won't need to worry about high cost Characters, and the DONs we would need to return.

Removals

Now there is not a lot of removals as we are constantly returning DONs back to deck, so using plenty of high drop removals could make us struggle to play those cards if we don't draw the ramp. OP01 Kaido works on play, by returning 6 DONs, if your Leader is Animal Kingdom Pirates type, KO all Characters other than this card. Pretty much is a board wipe in case your opponents decided to go wide before you. I still prefer this over the new Kaido & Big Mom card in OP08 set, as that card works when attacking, whilst OP01 Kaido works on play, so we could use the effect as soon as possible, rather than waiting for an extra turn which could be too late.

OP08 Big Mom really helps this deck as she provide the Life gain ability letting us to last longer in games. The effect works on play, by returning 1 DON and trashing 1 card from your hand. Add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. Then, add 1 of your opponent's 6 cost or less Characters to their top or bottom of the Life area face up. I wouldn't worry too much about placing your opponent Characters to top or bottom of Life area because as soon as we used this effect, we can use Kaido Leader's effect to trash that Character so your opponents won't be able to get that card in hand.

ST04 Kaido is still very strong in this build, although our removals are very high cost to play them. But shouldn't be too difficult with the number of ramps we have in the build. The effect works on play, by return 5 DONs, KO 1 of your opponent's 6 cost or less Characters, then this Character gains Rush. Thanks to this effect, we could potentially remove 2 of your opponent's Characters in one turn as Kaido can attack as soon as he hits the field, making it very handy.

Hand Destruction

For this build, we have a bit of hand destruction, forcing your opponents to discard cards from their hand whilst we are trashing their Life cards at the same time. This means they won't be able to get a decent hand size unless they are running plenty of searchers and draw power. OP01 X Drake works on play, by returning 1 DON, your opponent trashes 1 card from their hand.

ST10 Law is 1 cheaper than X Drake and is also a Blocker to stop your opponent's attacks, but unlike X Drake the effect is very situation. On play, by returning 1 DON, if your opponent has 7 or more cards in their hand, trash 2 cards from your opponent's hand. X Drake can trash your opponent's hand when they have low hand size whilst Law can trash your opponent's hand when they have large hand size.

Blockers

I am running a lot of Blockers, mainly because to stall for time so we could play the right cards and getting the big drop on the field. OP07 Sanji works the best when we return plenty of DONs back to DON deck, and that is what this deck does when it comes to returning DONs, easily triggering Sanji's effect. Sanji's effect is, if the number of DONs is at least 2 less than your opponent's field, reduce this cost by 3. So instead of paying the full 6 cost, we could play Sanji for 3 cost instead which shouldn't be hard to do.

ST04 Queen is a 6k Blocker with an on play effect. The on play effect is by returning 1 DON, draw 2 cards and trash 1 card from your hand. So basically providing you the draw power whilst filtering your hand as some cards like extra copies of Onigashima won't be needed in hand.

Events

For the Events, they are very simple. Jet Gatling is a 0 cost Event Counter which the counter effect is the same as all the colours. The counter effect is you may trash 1 card from your hand, 1 of your Leader or Character gains 3k power this battle. The trigger effect is also handy which is why I have maxed out this card. The trigger effect is add 1 DON as active. We will need as much DONs as possible in this deck as it is never enough even though the limit is 10 DONs.

Claiming One Piece is our 1 drop searcher as we still don't have a searcher for Animal Kingdom Pirates for purple. This is very important if we don't see Onigashima in our opening hand, we would need to look for this card as well. The effect is if your Leader has Animal Kingdom Pirates or Big Mom Pirates type, look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 Animal Kingdom Pirates or Big Mom Pirates card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. I am also running Pudding and Big Mom for Big Mom Pirates and Pudding is another important card if we are planning to return DONs back to deck.
