EB02 Green/Purple (Luffy) Deck Profile

The only new Leader from EB02 set, but there was a lot of controversy since people are chasing this Leader by looking at the JP Meta. To be honest, I am not surprised since Purple Straw Hats have some very strong cards, and mixing with the new green Straw Hat from this set, the deck can be good. Although, when I was putting the deck together, I saw the pricing, and this is as expensive as a YGO deck if you want to build this.

EB02 Luffy

How it Works?

As you can see, there are no high cost Characters in this build, because you will be constantly returning DONs, especially if you want to trigger Luffy's Leader effect. I didn't even have any time to play high cost Characters with the amount of DONs I was returning. There are also lack of ramp cards, since most ramp cards are non Straw Hat cards which is not good for Luffy's Leader effect as we only want Straw Hats on the field to trigger the effect.

In the end, the deck focus on Luffy beat stick as not only we've got Rush, but we can swing twice against your opponent's cards at a cost of losing 1 of our Life cards. It is also why I've decided to add Demon Nine Flash, so Luffy could swing for 10k beat stick twice whilst resting 1 of your opponent's Characters. There are also plenty of searchers to search out the key cards whilst also increasing your hand size, so I personally think you wouldn't have a problem looking for specific cards.

Ramp

There's not much ramp cards we can use for this build which might hurt if you are constantly returning DONs to your DON deck. Now OP07 Chopper is not a Straw Hat, but he is a Blocker, so once we used the effect, we can use the Blocker ability to get rid of Chopper, so we can trigger Luffy Leader on our next turn. Chopper works on play, if the number of DONs on your field is equal or less than than your opponent, add 1 DON as rest. This is very easy to do since we barely can get 10 DONs if you are constantly returning DONs back to deck.

Sanji & Pudding is another ramp card we can use, and this time being a Straw Hat card, we can search them out from deck very easily. Sanji & Pudding has 2 effects, the first effect works during your turn, when 2 or more DONs are returned to your DON deck, add 1 DON as active. This is very easy to do since both Luffy will return 2 or more DONs, so having this card on the field is really helpful. The second effect works on play, if the number of DONs on your field is equal or less than than your opponent, draw 1 card. This is also not hard to do if we are constantly returning DONs back to DON deck.

Resting

Now, we move onto the resting mechanics to stop any Blockers, or attack into those rested Characters. ST18 Usohachi is mainly for the 2k counter since you will struggle with getting a lot of DONs on the field. The effect works on play, if you have 8 or more DONs on the field, rest 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters.

EB02 Zoro on the other hand is very handy to have in the build. There are 2 effects, the first effect is if your opponent has 2 or more Characters, this Character can attack Characters on the turn he is played. So this is similar to Dressrosa style where we can attack Characters which is why resting would be useful. The second effect works on play, if your Leader is SH, rest 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters. Thanks to this effect, we can always get Zoro to attack your opponent's Characters on the turn he is played, as long as your opponent got 2 or more Characters.

Demon Nine Flash is an Event I've decided to run because the effect can work well with Luffy which I have mentioned above, and being a SH card means we can search the Event from the deck. The effect is your Leader or 1 of your Characters gains 3k power this turn. Then, you may rest 1 of your 3 cost or more Characters to rest 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. This will give your attacks a bit more power as we lack beat sticks in this build. The trigger effect is, rest 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters.

Searchers

One thing you are not short of are searchers in this build, especially for our turn 1 play. The more searching we can do, the easier to get the cards we need from the deck, especially certain key cards. EB02 Nami is just a standard searcher that works on play, look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 SH card other than Nami and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order.

ST18 Zorojuro on the other hand only search for purple SH cards, however, most of the SH cards are purple, so I don't think we would have any difficulties to see at least 1 in our search. The effect works on play,  look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal purple 1 SH card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. I guess the best thing is that we can also search another Zorojuro if we need to, plus having a 6k beat stick on the field unlike Nami.

When you're at Sea is not a SH card, but a Wano card instead, so our searchers will not be able to search this card from deck. However, the effect can also search SH cards from deck, giving more chances to get the right cards. The effect is look at the top 3 cards of your deck, reveal 1 SH card, Kid Pirates or Heart Pirates card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. Obviously, we want to look for SH cards in this build as I am not running the others in this deck. The trigger effect is activate this card's main effect.

Straw Hat Supports

For the SH supports, we've got these cards, whilst Luffy is one of our key cards in this build to deal some damage against your opponent's Life. EB02 Luffy has 2 effects, the first effect with require you to have a multicoloured Leader and your opponent needing 5 DONs to work to gain Rush. This is one of the easiest requirement to do in this game. The second effect works when attacking, you may return 2 of your active DONs to your DON deck to untap this Character. Then, add the top Life card to your hand. This is very easy to do thanks to Luffy's Leader effect, but the downside is definitely losing a Life card which is why we should focus more on defence.

OP07 Sanji is just a normal Blocker with an effect that works from your hand. If the number of DONs on your field is at least 2 less than your opponents, reduce this card's cost by 3. This will mean we could play Sanji for 3, and since this deck returns plenty of DONs, this is not difficult to do since we will need all the defence we can get to protect our Leader.

Lastly, I am running EB02 Merry Go which is a Stage card. This card is mainly for the draw power, but it is also very good against cost removals or cost resting, protecting your SH Characters. Merry Go have 2 effects, the first effect works on play, draw 1 card. The second effect is an activate main, you may rest this Stage card, if the number of DONs on your field is equal or less than your opponent, 1 of your SH Character gains +2 cost until the end of your opponent's next turn. This would mean we could keep certain cards on the field like Sanji & Pudding, so we can constantly keep the ramp effect.

Events

The 2 Events that can easily be search out thanks to being SH type. I really like Jet Gatling as we can use this card for ramp if we are lucky, or get rid of non counter cards in our hand if we got too much. The counter effect is you may trash 1 card from your hand, your Leader or 1 of your Characters gain 3k power during this battle just like any other colours. The Trigger effect is simply add 1 DON as active which we will need in this build from lack of ramp cards.

Giant is one of the best card in the build since we have a SH Leader. We can easily get 2 untap DONs on the field, but it is the returning DONs that might be a problem if we don't see our ramp card. The counter effect is by returning 2 DONs from your field, you may trash 1 card from your hand, if your Leader is SH type, your Leader or 1 of your Character cards gains 4k power this battle. Then, draw 2 cards. The drawing 2 can definitely increase our hand size on top of the searchers we've already got for this build.
