ST20 Yellow (Katakuri) Deck Profile

There's not a huge upgrade with this build as there's not much you want from the Katakuri's Starter Deck. Literally, the current build is very good at it is so updating it will be a bit difficult unless the card is really good and worth the copy to add it to the build. Katakuri has always been a strong deck since OP03 set, so for people who's already made this deck, it is just simply upgrading this bit by bit when a new set comes out, but of course, they have to work for this build.

ST20 Katakuri

How it Works?

We would be using Katakuri's Leader effect to constantly check the top card of your or your opponent's Life area, so we could power up the Leader to 7k beat stick. As you can see, I'm using a lot of old cards, and I don't think most of them would be in the ST20 deck. So it won't be worth buying Katakuri starter deck if you've already own the deck, as most of the new cards in that starter deck won't be needed for this build. There's a lot of trigger effects, since we want to trigger trigger effects when your opponents hit your Leader. Most of them will be very handy, but it will also depends on the situation.

The Life Gain

We've only got 2 cards who can perform Life gain, and they are both Big Mom Characters. 10 drop Big Mom works on play, if your Leader is Big Mom Pirates type, add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. Then, trash 1 card from your opponent's Life. The only downside to this is that we won't be able to use Katakuri's effect for a turn, but in return we would have a Life gain as well as being able to trash your opponent's Life, forcing your opponents to use counters early.

ST07 Big Mom works on play, your opponents chooses one of the following, they either trash their Life or you gain a Life. Either way, this is a win win situation we have, unless your opponents is at 0 Life, then they will always choose trashing Life, although once they are at 0 Life, we would make use of the DONs to try and finish off your opponents rather than playing 7 drop Big Mom.

Big Mom Pirates Supports

The rest of the Big Mom Pirates supports is very standard, I think you don't need to run EB01 Flampe, but I am running her because she is easier to search out from deck if we need the 2k counter. EB01 Flampe works on play, you may add 1 card from top or bottom of your Life to your hand to draw 1 card. Basically with this card, we will be able to draw 2 cards in one go, but of course the lower your Life, the less likely you could check the top cards of your Life with Katakuri's effect.

OP03 Pudding works on play, look at the top 4 cards of your deck, reveal 1 Sanji or Big Mom Pirates card other than Pudding and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. The best thing about this search effect is that we can also search for Sanji and not only Big Mom Pirates cards.

OP03 Perospero is another searcher, but the effect only works on KO. Look at the top 3 cards of your deck, reveal 1 Big Mom Pirates card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. The good news is if your opponents don't KO Perospero, we would have a 5k beat stick to swing, and if they do, we gain a card.

ST20 Katakuri is the only new card I am using from the set. He is a Blocker with an activate main effect. Once per turn, you may turn the top card of your Life face up to attach 1 rested DON to 1 of your Leader or Characters. This effect is great as he will work amazing with 10 drop Big Mom who will use up all of your DONs, making you unable to trigger Katakuri's Leader effect.

Trigger Characters

Here we have some Trigger Characters who works very defensive stopping your opponent's attacks. OP04 Bege's trigger effect 1 of your opponent's Leader or Characters cannot attack this turn. This can slow your opponent's attacks down, but if they got nothing, then we will need to add Bege to hand for the 2k counter to use in the counter step.

OP04 Sanji can be searched out thanks to Pudding's effect. He is a Blocker with a trigger effect that is the exact same as Perospero. You may trash 1 card from your hand to play this card. Personally I rather use Sanji as a Blocker instead of Katakuri, since Katakuri can make use of rested DONs, you want to keep Katakuri on the field as long as possible.

Straw Hat Supports

OP04 Sanji is not a Straw Hat which is why I didn't include him for this section. Almost all the Straw Hat are from the Egghead arc with the exception of Onami who is from the Wano arc. OP06 Onami has a nice main effect and a trigger effect, it will depends on the situation and see what you would like. The main effect works on play, 1 of your Leader or Character gains Banish this turn. Banish helps you to trash your opponent's Life. The trigger effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters.

OP07 Franky is like Sanji where we can hard play the card because of the base power. Although if you can hit the trigger effect, it will be even better. The trigger effect is draw 1 card, then if you have 1 or less Life, play this card. The best thing about this trigger effect is that we can draw even if we can't play Franky.

OP07 Luffy is optional, I'm just running him for more removal since reducing your opponent's board is very important as well as getting the big drop to the field. The main effect is an activate main, you may trash this Character, if your Life is 2 or less, KO 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters, then, draw 1 card. The best thing about this card is that we can attack first before using the effect, so we can make the full benefit of Luffy. The Trigger effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters, this is similar to the main effect.

OP08 Nami works amazing in this build as we are running a lot of Trigger cards, so we could easily trigger Nami's effect. The effect works on play, you may trash 1 card with trigger from your hand to KO 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. Then, if you have 3 or less cards in your hand, draw 1 card. This is similar to OP07 Luffy in this build, but we do get to KO 1 cost higher Characters. The trigger effect is just activate this card's on play effect.

Events

For the Events, they are very simple, both of them are counter card, except 1 of them can be as a main effect too. Who Should Disappear is yellow 0 cost Event Counter. The counter effect is the same as any other colours. You may trash 1 card from your hand, 1 of your Leader or Characters gains 3k power this battle. What's different between these cards will be their trigger effects, and this trigger effect is if you have 0 Life, you may add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. Then, trash 1 card from your hand. We would be checking the top card of your Life, so we could place this counter at the bottom so we could trigger the trigger effect.

Blaze Slice can be used during the counter step or the main phase. The effect is 1 of your Leader or Character gains 1k this turn. Then, if your opponent has 2 or less Life cards, rest 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters. It would be better if we can get your opponents down to 2 Life to use this card, otherwise we would only get the power bonus. The trigger effect is basically the same as the main effect, rest 1 of your opponent's 4 cost or less Characters. We just don't get the power bonus for this card.
