EB03 Black/Yellow (Koala) Deck Profile

Koala is back thanks to the EB03 support. It does help the build a little since we need 2 or more 8 drop or higher on the field to draw a card, and the more cards you can draw, the more counters you can get, or the more Characters choices we could play. For me, cramping everything in this build will be very difficult to do as there are plenty of cards I want to add, but we are only restricted to 50 cards for the deck. 



EB03 Koala





How it Works?

You want to get 2 or more 8 cost or more Characters on the field, so we can get the draw power going. The earlier we can draw the better which is why we will be relying on the 3 main increase cost cards, Koala, Hack and Morley as they only cost 4 to play. Of course we do have back up like Sabo and Robin who will cost 6 to play, and Kuma but the increase cost only last until the end of your opponent's turn.

The only 8 drop or higher is Dragon and Ace as I didn't really want to fill the deck will high cost. Although, I am thinking to run Stussy or Katakuri since we lack removal, and lacking removals means we need to take out your opponent's Characters.


Increase Costs


We've got 5 cards who can increase the Character costs so we can get at least 2 on the field to draw cards. I do think having these 5 will be enough and won't need any more as we need the room for other cards for the deck. EB03 Koala is the only card I've added from EB03 set and nothing more. Koala's main effect is if you have a RA Leader, this Character gains +4 cost. Now, we don't have to rely on Hack or Morley anymore when it comes to 4 cost Characters. The second effect only works during your opponent's turn and on KO, play one 6 cost or less RA type or Robin except Koala from your hand or trash. This is why I mainly filled the build with 6 cost or less Characters so we can have more choices to choose from if your opponent does KO Koala.

OP12 Hack is a card we can finally use the Blocker ability and wouldn't need to worry about losing an 8 cost Character on the field, thanks to the addition of Koala in the build. The effect is if you have a RA Leader, this card gains +4 cost and Blocker. We also have an on KO effect which is if your Leader is RA, KO 1 of your opponent's base cost of 4 or less. This is the only removal effect in the deck and it is not as good since there are a lot of 5 cost or more beat stick people are running.

OP12 Morley can be a nice back up, but we do mainly want to have this card in hand for the 2k counter. The effect is the same as Koala which is  if you have a RA Leader, this Character gains +4 cost. Nothing more additional effect have been added to Morley. But if you used Hack's Blocker ability, we can play Morley or Koala as replacement.

OP13 Sabo is a 7k Blocker who can be played for free using Dragon or Koala's effect, so we could discard this card if we needed to. The effect is an activate main, 1 of your Character gains +2 cost until the end of your opponent's turn. Then, attach 1 rested DON to your Leader. You mainly want to use the increase cost effect on either Sabo or Kuma as it is those numbers than can make 8 drop on the field.

Lastly we have Robin who is very specific as the card only works in Luffy or Koala build. The main effect is if your Leader is Koala or Luffy, this Character gains Blocker and +3 cost. We also have an on play effect which is you may trash 1 card from your hand, if your opponent has 5 or more cards from their hand, your opponent trash 2 cards from their hand. It's very handy as even if your opponent only got 5 cards in hand, we can make them discard 2 to go down to 3 cards in hand.

Life Gain


Not much Life gain we've got for this build, only Kuma and Ace to help to survive longer. OP12 Kuma being an RA card will be very useful as we can play this card for free from the trash and use the on play effect again. Kuma has 2 effects, the first effect works on play, you may trash 1 card from your hand, add the top card of your deck to top of your Life area. Then, this Character gains +2 cost until the end of your opponent's turn. Kuma will also triggers the Leader's effect, so we could have an 8 drop Character on the field. The second effect works during your opponent's turn and on KO, add the top card of your deck to top of your Life area. 

OP07 Ace will use up all your DONs and with the right timing, we could have an extra attack on the field. Ace's effect works on play, add the top card of your deck to top of your Life. Then, if you have 2 or less Life, this Character gains Rush. Although, Ace can gain Life card even if we have 3 Life cards, but it is better to get the Rush ability so we can do more attacks in a turn, especially swinging for big numbers.

Trigger Characters


The cards who we mainly want to trigger the trigger effect more than hard playing these cards. I think only OP09 Karasu can be hard play because of the Blocker ability, the others will mainly be for the 2k counter if you don't trigger their trigger effects. OP09 Karasu and Kuma has the exact same trigger effect which is if your Leader is RA type and you and your opponent has a total of 5 or less Life cards, play this card.

OP12 Baby 5 on the other hand is a card that let us provide more draw power for the deck. The trigger effect is if your Leader is multicoloured, draw 2 cards. Of course, this will need to require luck to work, but if you can pull this off and combined with Koala Leader, you can easily get a decent hand size for counters or to play Characters to the field.

Revolutionary Army Supports


The rest of the RA supports will be very straightforward. We have OP12 Koala who is our 1 drop searcher for this build. The effect works on play, look at top 3 cards of your deck, reveal 1 RA type except Koala or 1 Robin and add it to your hand. Then, trash the rest. We do want to build up the trash as some of the cards in this build will make use of the trash.

Like PRB02 Sabo for example, but you can run OP04 Sabo if you want the protection as both of these cards would work for the deck. I am mainly running the PRB02 version mainly for the 2k counter in case we need the numbers. Sabo is just a 6k Blocker with an effect that works from hand, if you have 15 or more cards in your trash, reduce this Character cost by 3. So we could play this for 3 if we can get 15, but 15 might be impossible unless you draw all the mill cards.

OP12 Dragon is a nice card to have on the field, especially when you need 8 cost or more Characters in play. The effect works on play, place 3 RA cards from your trash to bottom of the deck in any order, if your Leader is RA type, play one 6 cost or less Character from your trash. We can play any 6 cost or less Characters, but the deck mainly runs RA, so you would have to choose wisely when it comes to the effect.

Events


The Events are pretty much the same as previous build except I've added Ground Death. Captains Assembled is another 1 drop searcher in case you don't draw Koala, or Koala can search this and we use this to search for Koala building up the trash. The effect is look at top 3 cards of your deck, reveal 1 RA type except Captains Assembled and add it to your hand. Then, trash the rest. The trigger effect is activate this card's main effect.

Hair Removal Fist will be active as soon as we can get 1 of the increase cost on the field, so we don't need to wait until we have 8 DONs to use this effect. The counter effect is your Leader or 1 of your Character gains 2k power for the battle. Then, if you have an 8 cost or more RA Character, that card gains another 2k power for that battle, making the total of 4k power bonus. The trigger effect is draw 1 card and mill 1 card.

Lastly, Ground Death will be good if you set up 10 cards in your trash so we could use the counter effect. Otherwise, you will be aiming for the main effect which is by resting 2 DONs, negate the effect of 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters for this turn. This is very helpful as we can actually shut a lot of stuff down. The counter effect is if you have 10 or more cards in your trash, your Leader or 1 of your Characters gains 4k power for the battle.
