Some key information have been revealed, firstly I'll be talking about the ban list. This hurts some of my OP10 build, as I have builds uses some of these cards, now I have to abandon some build, because its only 1 new card from OP10 set, or change the card to an alternative option. Luckily we have plenty of options until the rotation format comes into play next year. So I have one year time to see if I should carry on play this game or not as I did not expect rotation format in Bandai card game as this hasn't happened in DBS or Digimon when I played those games.
Rotation Format
In the past, Bandai have introduced Block Numbers for card games, this is nothing new, we all thought they would implement rotation, but that never happened. But now One Piece will have this rotation format implemented. It does means Block Numbers are putting to use now instead of meaning nothing at all in the game.
Looking at this we will get to play at least 2 Block rotation. That is still plenty of sets we can access, but it does means really old Leaders won't be playable. Hopefully, they would remake some of the old Leaders so we can play them in the newer Blocks. I know MTG does like a reprint for certain cards so we can use them in the standard format. Maybe One Piece could do the same thing if they are making use of rotation format.
Some cards will be still usable for the standard format, which make sense since cards like Red SH only has Nami as their 1 drop searcher, and the Event to search is also in the same set as Nami. I don't know about 9 drop Shanks or 7 drop Sogeking since they are rarely used in people's build.
There's good and bad point about rotation format. The good point is that we won't have a long ban list like Digimon, banning the old cards because they are too good in the latest builds, because we know, we can just wait for the next rotation, and the cards will be rotated out.
The bad point about this is that the old Leaders are dead, so you would have to constantly spend money on new decks when the rotation is near. I guess it make sense since you look at blue Doffy deck who is dominating the meta. You don't need new cards, you can just keep the old stuff, and can still win, just like black/yellow Luffy. But sometimes, the new stuff are just bad that you really don't want to spend money on those decks.
It would seems that I would have to quit One Piece since I like playing with old Leaders, and being forced to spend on new set per rotation is just not my thing. Although, since I don't play competitive tournaments, I shouldn't even worried about rotation format, and just play my favourite old decks. However, I do have 2 decks that is not affected, but it would ruin my future builds like Rebecca for instant since OP10 set supports Dressrosa stuff. Unfortunately, most of the Dressrosa stuff will be in OP04 set, so that deck will literally be dead when rotation kicks in, unless they will add some Dressrosa stuff in the exception.
This rotation format will make me put some thoughts in the old Leaders. We still have a year time, so I can still post those decks whilst we can use them. But I feel that it will killed the fun of the game. Yes we won't have long ban list like non rotation games, but it does means we would have to spend more since we won't be allowed to keep the old cards for long. Well some people would like this and some people won't, everyone will have different opinions on rotation format. But rotation is not for me which is why I avoid games like MTG and Pokemon. Although MTG is also expensive which is another reason why I will not play MTG except Commander. Commander is fine, but if we go into the other format, then it is a no.
