So I want to talk about the recent EB set, and man, the pricing on some of the cards cost more than the previous EB set. Not to mention, I heard EB02 set got some bad reviews like short print or some, I don't know since I only buy singles. However, I feel like One Piece is heading to this expensive decks condition. There are some decks already cost more than some meta Digimon decks, and Digimon expensiveness mostly comes from the promos, otherwise Digimon would be decently affordable without the promos.
The only reason why I am complaining is because of rotation for One Piece. Rotation in card games are pretty normal, if you look at Pokemon and MTG, the main stream card games, those games have rotation. But MTG is expensive, so if you spend like your whole income into a deck, those cards would rotate out. But unlike One Piece, MTG can still use old cards either in the modern format, or commander, whereas One Piece would makes those rotated cards useless as the tournaments won't accept them, unless you make your own rules up.
Whereas Pokemon is very budget friendly, even with rotation, you don't feel like you spent a lot on the decks, and its not only just a popular franchise. Of course we do have major problems with scalpers for Pokemon, hiking up the booster box prices, but I think Pokemon will continuously print the sets unlike Bandai. But I haven't deep too much into Pokemon TCG as I am more of a Pokemon Showdown person, so my knowledge on the TCG is very minimum.
From my experience of Bandai games, their method are similar to Bushiroad, where they print a limited number of booster sets. Then, once they are gone, they are gone for good, hiking up the old prices. As we see, with EB02 set. Some of these cards aren't cheap, and if you want to chase some of them in this set, you only have 1-2 years of usage, then they would be useless, unless One Piece start making use of the out of rotation cards.
Speaking of Rotation, we know Extra Boosters mainly focused on old decks, but since they've introduced rotation format. Does that means no more EB sets? Or would EB sets become like MTG sets where they reprint certain cards for the new rotation. If they do that, it does mean chasing some cards when a new rotation comes into play would be easier to get. Although aside from Dragon Ball, I rarely see Bandai makes reprint sets.
It is a shame, since One Piece is a great game to play, but can be ruined by their own enemy Bandai. I wonder if its because Bandai tries to push as much card games as possible, which is also why the sets are short printed. Personally, if they focused on 1 card game rather than expanding on multiple card games, I feel like they could make it a lot better like how they did for Dragon Ball for a few years. I definitely like how they release Dragon Ball sets, and BSS followed the same path as that game.
