A lot of information have been revealed for OPCG and not just about the WCS. Luckily, the global side has also translated the stuff in this video, so I don't need to translate the stuff manual and try and figure our what's what. I just need to write my opinions about the stuff they've released. Do note, some of the products will have different release date for JP and EN. It does make sense since rushing all the products to catch up with JP will be a mess like DCG back then, so they will do it slowly, but we should be able to catch up near Autumn/Winter.
Tournament Results
Top 34 results, and surprisingly for global, Imu and Ace are in the meta compare to OP14 decks. Looks like JP and EN does have different meta like DCG, but I really hope the ban list would be different too.
Top 8 results, Ace and Imu shouldn't be too much of a surprised, but I guess Mihawk decks did not make it to top 8. What's surprising is that the 1 deck who reached top 34 managed to reached top 8 for Doffy and R/G Luffy. I always support the underdogs and would hope they could win or make it to top 3 compare to the meta decks. I guess there's U/P Luffy too.
Winner
Surprisingly, Ace did not make it to 2nd place, it was U/P Luffy. I guess the results aren't as predictable as some games when it comes to meta builds.
3rd Place
This announcement might ruins some of my current builds for EB03, so I will have to wait to tomorrow to see which decks will need changing. Not like it matters though since April will be the start of kicking Block 1 cards out of the format.
Products
ST30 got the release date for Global which is in June and they've also revealed the Leader's effect and it looks like you can't run 7k power or more base power, otherwise, we would have a 4k base Leader. The main effect powers up your Ace and Luffy cards, so we shouldn't worry about low base power. But currently, there are more low power Luffy in the game compare to Ace.
OP16 releases at the same time as ST30 and hopefully, we've also got some support for the starter deck as well, looking at the booster image.
I guess choosing a Character might be difficult, Crocodile recently got a Leader from OP14, so that is definitely out of the window. I guess the only option left is Kuma since we don't have a Kuma Leader. Would be great if they could make a Kuma Leader, and maybe do like a Pacifista support for this Paramount War instead of Yamato. I feel like Kuma gets more disrespect in this game compare to the One Piece series as there are plenty of chances to make Kuma as a Leader.
We are getting Elbaf support, and this is where simultaneous release begins. If you have been reading the manga, there are some Characters I really hope they would be the Leader in this set. I guess 1 of the Leader would be a Straw Hat otherwise this won't be One Piece at all, so we have 5 spots left. It's also been 4 years since OPCG started, it feels like yesterday when I first started playing the game.
I think this one I don't really care about.
The product schedule looks tight, EB05 and OP18 just 1 month apart. I wish they could increase the time frame for Extra Boosters and Boosters Set because 1 month can go by very quickly, especially when you are waiting for the prices of cards to go down.
Cards
The 2 main cards for Luffy and Ace that could go well with the Leader. 6k power is the maximum we could run for the deck. Luffy has Rush but we need to pay a cost with the ability to rest 1 of your opponent's Blocker.
Ace also has Rush like Luffy where we need to pay the cost. The when attacking effect is just a power reducing effect.
Lastly the Event, we need to have both 6k base power Luffy and Ace on the field if we want the draw, otherwise we will just have the 3k power bonus. I think 3k is not bad for a 1 drop Event.
Looks like we have 2 Impel Down Leaders, and we also got Luffy AA revealed. Although with Luffy, if you want the untap, you need to run Impel Down Characters on the field. I guess non Impel Down could be Blockers so we can sack them if we need to use Luffy's effect.
Ivankov is a 4 drop searcher, but let us play 2 cost for free. This does gives me an idea as we can also play 2 cost Ivankov with the effect. Maybe, I could go 2 drop Rush builds.
Bon Clay is 1 of the 2 drop we can also target, and we also have draw power which can refill our hand. The second effect is a when attacking effect is similar to EB01 version, but EB01 can target high power Characters, whilst OP16 version only targets your opponent's Leader.
We have Ace AA art, and the ability is just giving Luffy or WB Pirates Rush which can really make the deck aggressive. I guess it's a lot better than just focusing on Events like the OP03 version.
Whitebeard has a really strong first effect, making your Leader gains Double Attack and +2k power. We can run this in any red decks we want if we are aiming for the first effect. The on play effect focused on needing 8k power cards in hand in order to reduce opponent's Characters power. Looks like we might have a high cost deck for Ace.
Vista is another card where we need 8k power in our hand in order to draw a card and the when attacking effect isn't good as we can only KO two 2k base power or less Characters. No point even using power reducers for the effect.
We have Impel Down Buggy with AA art. If a Impel Down Character is removed, we can play Prisoner from our hand.
Looks like Prisoner has 2k counter with the ability to run 50 copies in the deck. Of course it won't be worth running 50, but we can run at least 24, so Buggy's effect could easily be triggered.
Mr 3 can work in any build, and as works with Buggy's effect since we will be removing this Character from the field to draw 2 as well as stopping your opponent's 9 cost or less to attack. Of course, we do want to attack with Mr 3 since he is a 5k beat stick before pulling off the effect.
Sengoku AA with the ability to play Admirals by returning 8 DONs. Unfortunately, those DONs need to be active, so we can't play any 8 cost or more, then use Sengoku's effect. But it make sense since we can play 3 Admirals in just 1 turn.
Kizaru could go in any purple decks that would need ramp, and we could make him a Blocker after we attacked, so it is not bad.
Akainu is the only card out of the 3 Admirals who is a SR, the effect is not bad. First effect is just a power reducer but the second effect is a constant ramp effect, but only if your Leader is Navy.
Lastly, Aokiji with more ramping for the on play effect and Unblockable effect for the second effect. The second effect can be used once per turn which is amazing especially if your opponents has plenty of Blockers.
Yamato makes no sense for this Paramount War set. Looks like we only got the Leader revealed and no other cards. It seems we will be playing Wano Characters from trash to get the Rush.
It's kinda a shame for the new BB Pirates support since Blackbeard here will need Trigger cards to work, so we can only run like BB Pirates searchers and Events from the old set to this deck. It's also the fact that it is really similar to BY Moria and B Crocodile style where we KO our own cards to trigger the effect. Also P Doffy as another 7 Warlord Leader. Are they making 7 Warlords KOing their own stuff deck.
Wolf lets you draw and make your Leader into a 7k base power. Useful for the main and trigger effect.
Shiryu is pretty much a Life gain card for BB Pirates build, and we could put Wolf from our trash to Life area to trigger the effect again. The trigger effect is draw 2 cards, and looking at the Leader's effect, draw power will be important as we need hand size if we want to trigger KO's effects.
