As I was playing Palworld 1.0, looking for guides on YouTube, I discovered that Palword has a card game. The game got so big that now we have card game like Pokemon. I don't think Nintendo will be happy about this since they've been suing Palworld for a long time
To be honest, I've been having fun on Palworld, restarted my account of course, but haven't deleted my main, so I can see what has changed. A lot of new Pals are in the game. I guess, going around the map to unlock the Eagle statue will take time, but eventually I will unlock them like my main account.
Anyway, enough about the Palworld game, as I want to discuss about the card game. The card game is from Bushi, so you can't expect the cards will be cheap knowing VG and WS pricing. But Bandai won't make a difference considering Bandai Card games are also expensive.
I've read the rules, and I was surprised this is not a Bandai game considering the game play is exactly like Bandai methods. I guess Bushi decided to jump on the bandwagon as OPCG made it big compare to Bushi card games. VG just seems to fallen off the radar, and WS has always been expensive to play because of anime tax as well as waifu/husbando taxes. No idea about the state of Shadowverse.
The one thing that this game reminds me of Bushi will be damage check with the icon that acts like Triggers. The one thing I did like was damage checks, and FFTCG was the closest in having that mechanic. Checking the top cards for any triggers, but for the rest of the game play, it's pretty much Bandai territory.
Gameplay
As you can see for the resources, we only get 10 cards just like OPCG and GCG which is why I thought this has to be a Bandai game over Bushi. Well, I forgotten about FoW, but I think FoW is dead for a while, it was a great game though until it died. We also get 2 resources per turn, just like Bandai games, but it feels like going 2nd is better will all the draw and 1 extra resource.
You have Gears, Events and Structural cards and Pals can work in those Structure cards just like the game. There's also a limit of up to 5 Pals on the field, this is no problem for me who played OPCG. But what I like is that Pals can deals damage to each other, just like GCG, so you have to really think about your attacks than just attacking normally.
What I am excited about is damage check. I think it's still the best mechanic rather than attacking in your opponent's Life area, shield or whatever they all this as a health mechanic.
Will this game Grow?
Every new card games will have this question, and in 1 year, we will know if this game is worth it or not. But Bushi needs to know how to manage Palworld correctly, and it can be easily top 10 or even top 5, just like the old VG when it was cheap and any decks could win. It was the only thing that got me into VG in the first place, but then, their philosophy changed when MLB got released, and we have 12k to 13k VG, which makes lower power decks harder to hit.
The one advantage is that Bushi doesn't need to make a video game like Dear Days which is still expensive in my opinion. Palworld is already there and a lot of people are playing this game. Of course, not everyone will be a card game fan, so Palworld as a card game might not pop off like the game itself, but it is still worth a shot.
If Bushi manages to balance the stuff correctly, I will definitely enjoy this game and don't really care if it copies Bandai DNA, but then again, Bandai also copied it from other games. But Bandai card games just haven't been balancing stuff recently, it feels playing certain colours have more benefits because of certain cards, no matter what game you play.
