OP16 Red (Shanks) Deck Profile

Shanks is now back in action thanks to the new support from OP16 set. The new supports really improved Shanks as we've got more RH Pirates in the build, and don't need to rely on non RH Pirates cards for the deck. The deck will be a lot more different as I'm trying to cramp as much cards as possible to this build.

OP16 Shanks

How it Works?

There are a bit of everything in this build, but our key point is being able to use the Leader's effect to reduce your opponent's attacking options, making your opponent to use up some of their DONs to power up their attacks if they want to hit our cards. You also don't want to use the Leader's effect on a very high power Character unless you have the counters. Otherwise, you will need Blockers to stop those attacks.

Power Reducers

Our Leader won't be the only one who can reduce your opponent's attacks. Some of these power reducers will be useful combined with your removals of the deck. Ace, Sabo & Luffy is literally our Otama replacement for Shanks. The effect is an activate main, you may attach 1 active DON to your Leader or 1 of your Characters and trash this card, 1 of your opponent's Characters loses 3k power for the turn. The downside is that we can only attach active DONs and not rested DONs, but the power reducing will definitely be useful for our removals.

Hongo is a card where we can constantly use the effect as long as he remains on the field. The effect is an activate main, you may rest this Character, if your Leader is RH Pirates type, 1 of your opponent's Characters loses 2k power for the turn. Beside, if you can't play Hongo to the field, the 2k counter will also be useful for defence.

OP12 Shanks is a 6k Blocker, but doesn't have a counter, so you really don't want to see this card where you are at a stage needing counters in your hand. The effect works during your opponent's attacks just like our Leader, you may trash 1 card from your hand to reduce your opponent's Leader or 1 of their Characters power by 2k for the turn. This is pretty much like your Leader's effect, but you will need to discard a card to reduce 1 of your opponent's attacks.

PRB02 Law is not bad for a 6 drop Character as we have a 7k beat stick and having a counter. Law has 2 effects, the first effect is if this Character would be removed by your opponent's effects, you may reduce this Character's power by 2k instead for the turn. This effect can help to keep our Characters on the field. The second effect works when attacking, 1 of your opponent's Characters loses 2k power for the turn. This will be useful with OP06 Shanks as this will allow OP06 Shanks to KO 1 of your opponent's high cost Characters.

Lastly, we've got OP09 Shanks who has Rush, but we can also play this card cheaply thanks to our new card, OP16 Beckman, and getting multiple copies of OP09 Shanks on the field can really hurt your opponent's attacks. The effect is a continuous effect, so as long as Shanks is on the field, the effect remain active. The effect is all of your opponent's Characters loses 1k power. If you can get 2 on the field, that will be -2k to all of your opponent's Characters and 2k makes a massive difference to some of the attacks.

Power

Power reducers is not the only thing we have in this build as we've got these 2 high cost Characters who can power up our Leader, making your Leader even harder to hit, so we don't need to worry about counters. EB04 Zoro is a nice addition to have in the build. Zoro has 2 effects, the first effect works on play, your Leader gains 2k power until the end of your opponent's turn. This will make your Leader a nice 7k base, plus, with the Leader's effect, you can choose which Characters power to reduce. The second effect is an activate main, if your opponent has 8k power or more Character, this Character gains Rush Character. This will be hard to trigger if you play Zoro during the early turns.

Although, Zoro is not the only card who will need 8k power on your opponent's field if you want additional effects. ST23 Shanks is also the same, especially when it is pretty much the same reason why I am running Zoro in the build, but Shanks will be cheaper if the requirement is met. That requirement will require your opponent to have an 8k base power or more on the field in order for this card to reduce the cost by 3 in your hand, which means, Shanks will only cost 6 to play which is 1 less than Zoro. The effect works on play, if your Leader is RH Pirates type or Uta, your Leader gains 2k power until the end of your opponent's turn, making your Leader a nice 7k base power to use.

Removals

Some of our power reducers will go well with our removals, so we can use our removals to target high power Characters. OP09 Roux is a Blocker and the effect works on KO, if your Leader is RH Pirates, KO 1 of your opponent's 6k base power or less Characters. Unfortunately, we can only target base power, but it make sense, otherwise, this card will be OP with the Leader's effect.

OP09 Beckman is a really strong removal, but a lot of decks these days won't be using this card unless you have the room. The effect works on play, trash 1 of your opponent's 6k power or less Characters. As the effect says trash, we can bypass on KO effects since trashing and KO are different, so you don't need to worry about triggering your opponent's on KO effects.

OP06 Shanks cost 10 to play, but with OP16 Beckman, that cost can be cheaper, which also means, you can play your other power reducers before playing OP06 Shanks. The effect works on play, KO 1 of your opponent's 10k power or less Characters. Although, if you do need to play this for 10, you will have to rely on Law or OP09 Shanks to reduce 1 of your opponent's high power Characters.

Searchers

The searchers will be useful as we can get the cards we need, especially OP16 Beckman to play our 10 drop Shanks at a cheaper cost. OP09 Uta is our main searcher, but she is not a RH Pirates type. The effect works on play, look at top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 RH Pirates card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order.

If you don't see Uta in your opening hand, you also got We'll Fight You as the backup option for searching. The effect is look at top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 RH Pirates card except We'll Fight You and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. The trigger effect is just draw 1 card. This can be useful if you need the hand size, but if you need the search, then, you will need to add this card to hand.

The Supports

The rest of the supports will be very simple, and 2 of them are from OP16 set. OP16 Rockstar is a card that can protect your RH Pirates on the field. The effect works once per turn, if your RH Pirates Characters would be KO'd, you may trash one 6k power or more Character from your hand instead. This is not difficult to pull off as I am running plenty of 6k power and above in this build.

PRB02 Roux is another Blocker like the OP09 version, and just like Rockstar, you will also need high power Characters in your hand to work. The effect works on play, you may trash one 6k power or more Character from your hand to draw 2 cards. This will help you filter out the cards you won't be needing to get a better hand to use.

OP16 Beckman is our main card of the deck, and this will be the key to play our high cost Shanks to the field with some DONs remaining to use. Beckman is also another Blocker, so we can easily stop your opponent's high power Characters. The effect works on play, you may rest 1 of your DONs, if your Leader is RH Pirates type and you have 10 DONs on the field, play 1 Shanks from your hand. Of course, you want to aim to play 1 of your high cost Shanks to make the full use of the effect.

ST23 Uta will be useful as we've got plenty of high power Characters in this build to meet the requirements. The effect is if you have a 10k power or more Character on the field, reduce this card's cost by 4. Uta will then become a 2 drop Blocker to stop 1 of your opponent's attacks, otherwise, the 2k counter will also be useful.
