There's been tournaments in Japan, but I have been skipping some of them because they did not have anything interesting. I might have miss some in the past though, and that was when they have OP16 reveals. Now, we are moving onto the reprinted Leader starter decks with some new cards added. I guess what will be interesting is the OP16 meta and what decks will be topping. I know the EN meta will be slightly different, so you won't expect this to be the same.
Tournament
OP16 meta and looks like Nami is the one being mainly used compare to before. I guess the recent set really improved Nami from underdog deck to main meta deck. Surprisingly, Enel is doing very well. The only new deck from OP16 is Blackbeard is strong in this current meta, and I'm not surprised because it's Blackbeard. They already got some pretty good cards from OP09 set, but really needed new supports if they want to keep up.
Mihawk and Corazon are also doing very well this meta, I've got to look up the new Corazon list and it might be mixed with the new purple Navy support from OP16. OP16 Luffy and Yamato only has 5.9% compare to Blackbeard. Then, we have OP13 Luffy and Lucy as the same number, along with Ace who were used quite a lot during OP15/EB04 release.
Looks like Crocodile is still going strong with only 1 set of support, if we get another set of support, I could really see Crocodile being a top contender. Shanks might be back with the new OP16 support, and I'm quite surprised at OP16 Ace considering the requirements that deck has. The last build is Roger hanging on to the list.
Top 8
A little different this time, they usually show Top 16 decks and Top 8 in handwriting, but this time, we are moving to top 8. Once again, the top 8 deck proves that numbers means nothing. Of course, there are several factors why top decks fail to reach the top 8. But I did not expect both Corazon and OP16 Luffy will have 2 people reached top 8 with those decks. I was expecting Nami more in this list.
Mihawk, Nami, Enel and Blackbeard only has 1 person reached top 8. Well, since Corazon is here, I might as well root for Corazon all the way, and definitely looking forward to improving Corazon with the new stuff.
Winner
In the end, Enel won and looking at the list, you won't need OP16 as Enel is very strong with the current supports, which is the scary part. Enel could last a while like Imu deck until it get outpowered by the new sets.
Runner Up
Corazon came 2nd, and I'm happy about it. But just as predicted, it was OP16 support that improved this build. At first, the deck felt like a meme deck when the Leader first got released, but now, the deck can become a serious contender.
Cards
I am looking forward to see what supports will come in for these 6 starter deck Leader. There will be some old cards, but that what these starter deck are mainly about, mixed with reprints and new cards. The date will be different for EN, and it doesn't seem we have an official release date yet.
Jinbe
Red Character (ST31-002)
5 Cost / 6000 Power (Strike)
Fish-Man / Straw Hat Crew
[Counter +1000]
<Blocker> (After your opponent declares an attack, you may rest this card to make it the new target of the attack)
[On Play] Draw 1 card. Then, play up to 1 {Straw Hat Crew} type card with a cost of 1 from your hand.
Looks like we've got more 1 drop support for ST21 Luffy Leader, although, we did lose some old supports from Block 1, so I doubt, I could make use of the 1 drop Rush build again. |
|---|
Kin’emon
Green Character (ST32-001)
1 Cost / 2000 Power (Slash)
Land of Wano / The Akazaya Nine
[Counter +1000]
[On Play] You may rest 1 of your (Slash) attribute Leaders or DON!! cards: Draw 2 cards and trash 1 cards for your hand.
The effect is nice, the draw power is definitely useful, but I doubt you will be resting your Leader unless you know your Leader won't hit a card on the field, so you will be resting your DONs to get the draw off. |
|---|
Koby
Blue Character (ST33-001)
2 Cost / 1000 Power (Strike)
Navy
[Counter +1000]
[Blocker]
[On Play] You may trash 1 card from your hand: Draw 1 card.
At first, I thought this was just a normal hand filter effect, but I realised, the Leader is Kuzan, so you will be drawing 2 by discard 1 which is not bad. We also have a 2 drop Blocker who could easily block 1 of your opponent's attacks if needed. |
|---|
Charlotte Brulee
Purple Character (ST34-003)
1 Cost / 2000 Power (Special)
Big Mom Pirates
[Counter +2000]
[On Play] Look at 3 cards from the top of your deck; reveal up to 1 {Big Mom Pirates} type card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order.
Brulee is just a normal searcher, and the thing with Katakuri is that some cards from the starter deck can go in Pudding build as Pudding also have the access of Life gain cards. Katakuri will need a set that can focus on the Leader style instead of a mix of both Leaders. |
|---|
Karasu
Black Character (ST35-003)
3 Cost / 4000 Power (Special)
Revolutionary Army
[Counter +2000]
[When Attacking] You may trash 2 cards from the top of your deck: If your opponent has 7 or more cards in their hand, your opponent trashes 1 card from their hand.
Looks like RA got more mill which is good since we want to make use of some of the cards effects for both Koala and Sabo builds. Although, Karasu is suited more in Sabo since Sabo can power Karasu, making your opponent discard a card. I think the 5 drop version also discard card too, so you could make a discarding RA build. |
|---|
Cavendish
Yellow Character (ST36-001)
3 Cost / 3000 Power (Slash)
Dressrosa / Supernovas / Beautiful Pirates
[Counter +2000]
[On K.O.] You may trash 1 card from your hand: Add up to 1 card from the top of your deck to the top of your Life cards.
Looks like you don't have to rely on Life gain cards that not in the SN type for Kid build. Cavendish's effect is really easy to trigger as Kid can make Cavendish into a Blocker. Although, I guess we still need to discard 1 card, so you can just run EB04 Kizaru as your other Life gain card, since OP15 Zoro could make you discard a lot of cards. Plus Cavendish, also has 2k counter, but most likely, I will be playing him on the field for the effect. |
