OP17 Red (Newgate) Deck Profile

Whitebeard got rebooted and we don't have a 6k base Leader anymore. Instead, we will have to use the effect if we want more power. Although, most of the old WB Pirates supports have rotated out, so we will be stuck with the style from OP16 set until we get another support.

OP17 Whitebeard

How it Works?

This build is a very high cost deck, but it won't matter too much as you can use your Leader's effect to stop 1 of the attacks, so we could get to 5 or 6 DONs to start playing the main cards to the field. As you can also see, I've kept the 8k style since some of the cards in this build have 8k power, you could add more 8k power to the deck if you want to trigger some of the card's effects more easily.

Power Reducers

There are not much for power reducing as they are all pretty high costs except the Event. OP17 Izo has the Rush Character ability which can go very well with the effect, but only if that Character is rested. The effect works on play, if your Leader is Whitebeard or has Wano type, 1 of your opponent's rested Characters loses 6k power for the turn. 6k power is a lot, especially when Izo is also a 6k beat stick, so you could swing into a lot of Characters with the Rush Character ability.

OP16 Whitebeard is 1 of those cards where we need 8k power in our hand to work, but, we also have a 10k beat stick for 8 which is not bad. Whitebeard has 2 effects, the first effect works during your turn, your Leader gains Double Attack and 2k power. This will be very effective with our other power up cards, making our Leader hit deadly. The second effect works on play, you may reveal two 8k power Characters from your hand, 1 of your opponent's Characters loses 6k power for the turn. This is like Izo, but we don't have to target rested Characters.

Gahahaha only has a counter effect, but being a WB Pirates card, we can add this card to hand easily. The counter effect is your Leader including WB Pirates type or 1 of your Characters including WB Pirates type gains 2k power for the battle. Then, your opponent's Leader or 1 of their Characters loses 2k power for the turn. This is a strong event as you can also target your opponent's Leader, forcing them to use DONs to power up their Leader if they want to hit.

Removals

As for the removal, 1 of them won't work with our power reducers which is a shame. This card is OP17 Haruta, and Haruta has 2 effects. The first effect works during your opponent's turn, this Character gains 3k power, making an 8k power beat stick on your opponent's turn. The second effect works on play, KO 1 of your opponent's 2k base power or less. 2k base power is not a lot, so we can only target low costs Characters.

ST15 Whitebeard is 8k power which works well with the other effects. Whitebeard has 2 effects, the first effect works on play, attach 1 rested DON to your Leader or 1 of your Characters. The second effect is an activate main, you may rest this Character to KO 1 of your opponent's 5k power or less. As this is an activate main, we don't need to worry about on play effects if we can get ST15 Whitebeard first on the field before the power reducers.

Searchers

Unfortunately, our main WB Pirates searcher have been rotated out, so we have to use these cards as our main searcher instead. OP16 Ace is a main card you want to have on the field as it makes the cards in your hand a lot easier to use. Ace has 2 effects, the first effect is all 8k power Character in your hand becomes 2k counter. Most of our 8k power doesn't have a counter, and getting 2k will make it really easy to use from hand than using the cards as a discard fodder. The second effect works on play or on KO, look at top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 Luffy or 1 type including WB Pirates card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order.

Snot nosed Brat is the main card you want to see in your hand as this only cost 1 to play. The effect is look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 card including WB Pirates type and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. We also have a trigger effect that can be useful if the timing is right which is your Leader gains 1k power for the turn.

OP16 Moby Dick is another card you want to see in your hand as this is another 1 drop card we can play. Moby Dick has 2 effects, the first effect works on play, if your Leader is WB Pirates type, look at top 3 cards of your deck and add 1 card to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. The best thing about this effect is being able to add any cards to your hand without revealing it. The second effect is an activate main, you may trash this Stage to attach 1 rested DON to your Leader or 1 of your Characters. This is also useful as you could play another Moby Dick on top if you need more searchers.

Power

You can add EB04 Zoro to the build for more powering up your Leader, but since I maximised these cards, you will hardly have any time to play Zoro unless you don't see these cards. OP17 Jozu is an 8k power which works very well with some of the cards in this deck. The effect works on play, your Whitebeard Leader base power becomes 8k until the end of your opponent's turn. This also means we can  use our Leader's effect on the Characters instead of the Leader.

OP17 Whitebeard works best if your opponent has 10k power or more Character on the field as you can play Whitebeard for 6 instead of the full 10 cost. This is very helpful if we want to get 12k beat stick to the field a lot easier. The effect works on play, your monocoloured Leader's base power becomes 8k power just like Jozu, except Jozu is more specific, whilst Whitebeard can be use in other decks.

Whitebeard Pirates Supports

The rest of the WB Pirates supports are these cards. OP16 Izo can easily be replaced with another card as this is the spot I haven't decided if Izo is permanent or not. The effect will be very useful if we can get certain cards to our hand. The effect works on play, you may reveal one 8k power Character from your hand to draw 1 card. Personally, the draw will be very useful as we will be discarding with the Leader's effect.

Dog Duke & Cat Viper for short is a 2k counter card. I think 2 is enough as it really depends on what is on the field. The effect works on play, 1 of your Wano or including WB Pirates type Character gains Rush for the turn. Unfortunately, this will cost you 3 to play, so we can't really use this card with our heavy beat stick Characters.

OP17 Marco is still the same Marco that have been released throughout the game. Marco has 2 effects, the first effect is if 1 of your Character is removed from your field by your opponent's effects, you may KO this Character instead. The second effect works on KO, you may trash 1 card including WB Pirates type to play this card from your trash. This is not once per turn, so as long as you've got cards to discard, you can keep bringing back Marco to the field.

OP17 Oden is a card where we can play low cost Characters to the field which is why I don't want to fill the deck with 8k power Characters. The effect works on play, if your Leader is Whitebeard or has Wano type, play one 6k power or less Wano or type including WB Pirates Character from your hand. You will still have some choices to choose from, but that will be only if you can draw those cards.
